Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – As the fall sports season kicks off across the area for JV and Varsity level high school sports, the DLCCC has a variety of fall youth sports, recreation, and wellness programs.
“It’s a great opportunity for kids to try some sports out,” says DLCCC Marketing director Kim Bettcher. “In first and second grade we start our flag football programs…that will start in the middle of September. That’s for both girls and boys.”
The DLCCC also offers boys and girls cross country, swim lessons, and volleyball in the fall.
“Our cross country program is fourth, fifth, and sixth grade…that program will start on Tuesday, August 30th,” said Bettcher. “It’s a really cool opportunity because those kids run in some meets. There are a lot of area schools that have kids participating in cross country and they’ll get a chance to go out on the same courses as the junior high, JV, and varsity kids are on. They run before the varsity events. We also have our Sunfish swim team that gets going in October, and we have a lot of kids from there that end up swimming on the high school team…there are a lot of veteran Sunfish swimmers that compete for the Lakers. We also have our basketball program starting up in late October. Kids can start in third and fourth grade and it’s another great example of programs that let kids try things out.”
