Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – 325 golfers participated in the 22nd annual KDLM Laker Open on Friday, August, 19th helping raise over $70,000 for Detroit Lakes Public Schools activities.
“It’s one our single biggest fundraisers of the year for Laker Boosters,” said Detroit Lakes Activities Director Rob Nielsen. “It’s become a huge event. Typically, it’s a $60,000 day for our boosters. 100% of that money gets filtered into our activities accounts and supports things like equipment needs for our athletics and activities programs. And that has just been a boon of our programs and the things we’ve been able to get…the number of things our programs have been able to benefit from the funds raised from things like the Laker Open is amazing.”
The Laker Open was started in 2000 by then-Athletic Director Rick Manke and Ross Fortier, a former football coach at Moorhead State and has since raised well over one million dollars for Detroit Lakes activities.
