Children At Risk On New App, Likee

Jul 25, 2022 | 10:22 AM

(KDLM/KNSI) – Law enforcement is warning parents about Likee, a video sharing app similar to TikTok, but with very few controls.

The app is supposed to only allow users 16 and older, but it is easy to get around the restriction and young kids could potentially be exposed to mature content. Likee’s parental filtering function has been criticized as ineffective by watchdog groups as well.

Law enforcement also says private accounts are forbidden on Likee, which opens kids up to harassment. Predators could take advantage of the GPS feature, when a user makes a post, they are unable to hide their location, that means their location is automatically displayed on every post.

Parents are advised to talk with their children about staying safe while using the internet and smartphone devices.
