(KDLM/MNN) – Friday is the final day for front-line workers to apply for COVID “hero pay” checks from the State of Minnesota.
Over 1.1 million people have put in their names so far — nearly double what officials forecast. $500 million is available, but checks will likely be smaller than anticipated according to Gov. Walz. “I want to stay away from doing the exact math on this but the answer is yes, and I think it’s probably one of the reasons — I don’t think I’m speaking out of order for these folks — that they advocated for the billion dollars and the expanded pool of folks.”
Senate Republicans agreed to $500 million, pointing out that’s double what the legislature approved last year.
