Sanford employees in Detroit Lakes receive 50 pair of Skechers donated by county soybean growers, July 21, 2022. Soybean oil is used in the shoes’ rubber tread.

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Becker/Mahnomen County Corn and Soybean Growers donated 50 pair of soy based shoes to Sanford workers in Detroit Lakes, Thursday.

In 2020, Skechers released its GO line of footwear, which uses soybean oil to improve grip, stability and durability.

The shoe giveaway is part of the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council’s (MSR&PC) “Stepping Up Campaign” promoting the value-added uses of soy while making community connections.

“We wanted to highlight front line workers and what they do and also highlight soybean technology and the good uses soy can go towards,” said Sydney Harris with the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association.

As part of the Stepping Up promotional effort, Minnesota’s 44 county boards are eligible to donate up to 50 pairs of Skechers soy-based GO shoes to a local health care facility, including local hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
