Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) –
(story submitted by coach Phil Kirchner)
After striking out a season-high 13 times and committing five costly errors in a 13-0 loss to district powerhouse Alexandria, Detroit LakesĀ Post 15 walked off Alexandria in comeback fashion 8-7 in Game Two.
In Game One, Detroit Lakes only managed four hits against Alexandria ace JD Hennen and stranded nine baserunners in the game.
Game 2 started off much like the first one. Post 15 would commit two errors and fall behind 4-0 after the first inning. Alexandria would tack another unearned run to make it 5-0. Post 15’s bats would finally wake up and get single runs in the 3rd and 4th inning. They would make it a one-run game in the 5th after scoring two more runs. Jeffrey Moen had a big double to lead the effort. Alexandria would add two runs in the 7th inning to make it a 7-4 game.
Post 15 would not quit. Jacob Thomas would double to start the comeback. An RBI sac fly by Noah Rieber would make it 7-5. After another out, a walk, a single by Joshua Goodspeed, and a hit by pitch the bases would be loaded with two outs.
Grady Kirchner would draw a walk to make it 7-6. Bradly Swiers worked a 0-2 count into another walk tying the game 7-7. DL’s best hitter, Jordan Tucker would come up and launch a walk-off hit to the fence completing the comeback and Post 15 would win 8-7.
Tucker had three hits and Jacob Thomas would collect 2 in the nightcap. Noah Rieber gets the win in relief of Logan Adams. DL is now 13-11 on the year and will begin the Water Carnival Tournament on Thursday night at 7:30 vs Mayport, ND.
