PERHAM (KDLM) – Several Lakes Area High School Seniors have received Royale B and Eleanor M. Arvig Memorial Scholarships.
Arvig established the scholarship fund to encourage civic leadership and emphasize the importance of higher education to honor Royale and Eleanor Arvig who began offering telephone service to the Perham area in 1950.
“We are proud to invest in the futures of area students,” said David Arvig, Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at Arvig. “Our rural communities need educated and talented young people to be our future leaders. We want to congratulate each one on their success and wish them the best of luck as they pursue their education.”
Each student will receive a $3,000 scholarship. Students were selected based upon achievements or interest in the field of mathematics, engineering, accounting, computer science, telecommunications or any of the physical sciences
Scholarship winners include: Isaac Scherfenber (Battle Lake High School), majoring in engineering/computer science; Mya Anderson (Detroit Lakes High School), majoring in technology; Malena Maloney (Frazee-Vergas High School), majoring in computer science; Tallyn Ranstrom (Hawley High School), majoring in engineering; Peter Leno (Lake Park Audubon High School), majoring in environmental science; Kaelyn Snetsinger (Mahnomen High School), majoring in biology; Connor Kostynick (Perham High School), majoring in engineering; Sofia Bly (Waubun High School), majoring in veterinary medicine; and Heather Annette (White Earth High School), Associates of Arts degree.
