DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Swimmers in Detroit Lake are being warned about Swimmers Itch.
Cases of Swimmers Itch, a temporary skin rash that is caused by an allergic reaction to microscopic parasites have been reported in the lake.
The MN DNR says to avoid Swimmers Itch you should keep waterfowl away from your dock and shoreline, stay out of the water by the shore, apply waterproof sunscreen and dry off with a towel as soon as you get out of the water.
The city plans to treat the lake next week, usually with copper sulfate which eliminates all parasites connected with Swimmer’s Itch.
