DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Lakes Area residents may want to spend some time looking at the moon this week.
A Strawberry Moon, a name that comes from the Algonquin Native American tribe in the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada and refers to the region’s strawberry harvesting season will reach full brightness Tuesday.
This will be the first of three Supermoons to appear over the summer months. This month’s moon will appear about 7% larger and 15% brighter than usual allowing for observers to see the mountains and craters on the lunar surface much more easily.
The next Supermoon will occur July 13.
