Class AA State Track and Field Wrap-Up: Three Otters in the top-three, Laker 4×100 Relay Heads To Finals

ALBERTVILLE, MN (KDLM) – The Class AA State Track and Field prelims were a busy one for Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls, with the Laker 4×100 team advancing to Saturday’s state finals and three Otters finishing in the top three in their respective field events, including the girls High Jump state championship.

Detroit Lakes competed in four prelim events on Friday morning. Abby Larson took 12th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.87 seconds. Larson then anchored the 4×200 team and, along with Ella Paulson, Mallory Fischer, and Annie Paulson, took 12th with a time of 1:48.70.

The Laker Boys 4×100 team finished third in their heat with a personal-best time of 43.39, which put them in seventh place overall. Hunter Zempel, Mason Carrier, Cameron Marxen, and Ethan Carrier will compete in the State Finals on Saturday at 11:17.

Annie Paulson finished fifth in her heat in the 300m hurdles, putting her at 10^th place overall. Abby Larson, in her third event of the morning, finished 15th in the 200m dash with a time of 26.70.

Two Lakers will participate in their field events on Saturday: Brandton Marsh will compete in the Long Jump, and Jerzie Horner will compete in Pole Vault.

The Fergus Falls Otters had three field participants place in the Top Three. Ainsley Hansen won the state championship in the High Jump with a jump of 05.07.00. Jordan Lee placed second in the Pole Vault with a 14-03.00, and Alexander Jensen finished third in the Shot Put with a throw of 53-06.50.

Shane Zierden placed 12th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 40-06.75.
