Eight Lakers Advance to Track And Field Section Finals on Saturday

DETROIT LAKES, MN (KDLM) – Laker Track and Field qualified eight participants for the Section AA Finals coming up this Saturday in Alexandria at the section prelims at Mollberg Field on Wednesday afternoon.

To advance to the section finals, athletes must finish in the top eight in their respective events, or meet the Minnesota State High School League’s state qualifying time, height or distance. The top-two finishers at sections will advance to the State Track and Field Meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Mason Carrier and Ethan Carrier qualified for the finals in the 100m, as did Abby Larson on the girl’s side. Larson also qualified in the 200m. Rylee Johnson advanced in the 100m hurdles and Zach Olson and Alexander Fletcher advanced in the 110m hurdles. Olson will also move to the section finals in the 300m hurdles. Annie Paulson will compete in the 300m hurdles and Amaya LeCleir advanced in the 800m.

The Lakers were very close to qualifying a couple more athletes for state in the eight field events held on Wednesday. Grace Gunderson finished third in the high jump, just two inches off the mark to advance to State. Brandton Marsh finished fourth in the Triple Jump, Mason Carrier finished seventh in the shot put, and Jacob Ehnert finished eighth.

The other half of the field events will be on Saturday: girls’ Triple Jump, Shot Put, and Pole Vault and boys’ long jump, discus throw, and high jump.
