Corey Hepola Ends Minnesota Gubernatorial Campaign

May 31, 2022 | 6:11 PM

ST. PAUL (KDLM) – Two weeks after announcing his running mate, Perham native, Corey Hepola has ended his bid to be Minnesota’s next Governor.

Hepola announced his intent to run for the office in March as a 3rd party candidate in the Forward Party. In a statement issued, Tuesday, May 31, Hepola said he had chosen not to file for Governor of Minnesota in part because he felt that the polarization driven by the Democratic and Republican parties made it unlikely that 2022 would be the breakthrough year for a 3rd party.

“I have chosen not to file for Governor of Minnesota. However, I will continue to promote and build support for the bold, new ideas on which my campaign was built and to create the political vehicle that can transform proposals to policy,” said Hepola.

It’s unclear what Hepola plans to do next, he joined WCCO Radio in 2019 after working as a morning and weekend anchor at KARE 11 in the Twin Cities. He stepped down from that role in February as he mulled a run for governor.
