Laker Girls Golf Finishes Third At Tri-State Preview Meet

COON RAPIDS, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Girls golf team took third place at the two-day Tri-State Preview Invitational at Bunker Hills Golf Club.

The Tri-State Preview is a 16-team meet that features some of the best competition in the state, and is held at the site of the Class AAA State Tournament, which is June 14-15.

The Lakers were tied for second place after the first day of the tournament, shooting a combined 327, which was even with Eastview and seven strokes behind section-rival Alexandria. Laura Syltie shot a 77 on Day 1, which tied her for sixth place overall. McKenna Mallow was tied for eighth with a 78, and Hanna Knoop was tied for 12th with an 81.

Madi Hicks of Chanhassen shot a 69 on the Par 72 course on Friday.

The Lakers had a tougher Day Two, shooting a 340 as a team. Knoop led the Lakers with an 81 on Saturday, followed by Mallow’s 85. Syltie carded a second-round 87 on Saturday.

Hicks shot another 69 on Saturday to win medalist honors, finishing -6 for the tournament with a 138.

Knoop, Mallow, and Syltie all finished within three shots of each other and finished 11th, 13th, and 15th on the leaderboard, respectively in the 93-golfer field. Sydney Miller finished tied for 32nd, Tatum Gatheridge finished 55th, and Mya Boeke finished 71st.

The Lakers next meet will be the 8AAA Section Tournament at Rich Spring Golf Club in Cold Spring against the re-aligned section field: Alexandria, Becker, Bemidji, Brainerd, Buffalo, Moorhead, Rocori, Sartell, Sauk Rapids-Rice, St. Cloud Tech, St. Cloud Apollo and Willmar.
