Laker Boys Golf Takes Third At North-South Invite at Headwaters Golf Club

PARK RAPIDS, MN (KDLM) – Detroit Lakes Boys golf finished in third place at the two-day North-South Invite at Headwaters Golf Club in Park Rapids on Saturday with a two-day score of 628.

The Lakers shot a 314 on Friday, which put them four shots behind Fargo Davies and two shots behind former section-rival Roseau for second place. Nick Tobkin shot a 74 on the first day of the tournament, two-over-par and in a three-way tie for first place with Nick Yavarow of Bemidji and Jayve Johnson of Fargo Davies. Logan Schons shot a 77 on Friday which tied him for sixth overall, Jack Syltie was tied for 16th with an 81, and Tyler Stensgard was tied for 17th with an 82.

The Lakers shot an identical 314 on Saturday. Syltie shaved eight strokes off his Friday total to finish with a 73, tying him for the lowest score of the day with Fargo Davies’ Johnson. Tobkin shot a day-two 77, tying him for ninth place. Lawsen Justesen also had a great day two, shooting a 79 after a Day One score of 88.

Jayce Johnson was the two-day medalist winner with a 147 over the two days. Tobkin finished in second place overall with a 151.

Laker Boys Golf has two meets this week as they get ready for the Section 8AAA Tournament at Headwaters June 2-3. Laker Golf will be at the Legacy Golf Course at Craguns in Brainerd for a 24-team meet on Wednesday, then will play at Rose Creek in Fargo on Thursday.
