Detroit Lakes Native Summits Mount Everest

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A Detroit Lakes High School graduate has summitted Mount Everest.

Eddie Taylor, who grew up in Detroit Lakes is one of nine climbers that took part in the first ever, all-black American expedition to the peak of Mount Everest.

Taylor arrived at the summit in the early morning hours of May 12, “We did it yall! The Expedition was a success. The summit just being a single step in a very long journey. At 2:40 am on May 12th, Pasang Sherpa and I stepped onto the highest point on Earth, snapped a few blurry photos and proceeded to hustle down,” he said in an Instagram post.

Taylor departed for Nepal in early April after training for several months for the 70-day expedition which begin in March. Taylor is currently a high school chemistry teacher in Lafayette, Colorado.
