Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – A family in Detroit Lakes is salvaging their belongings after their home was struck by lightning last week.
Mike and Lori Danner’s home in the Timber Creek neighborhood in Detroit Lakes was struck by lightning during a storm around 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 11th. The house was soon engulfed in flames and was later declared a total loss.
The Danner family wasn’t home during the lightning strike, and no injuries were reported.
A GoFundMe was organized for the Danner family, which exceeded its goal of $10,000 within 24-hours. “Although this goal has been met, there are still so many unknown costs that will be needed.” the GoFundMe page says. “We still greatly appreciate anything that you can donate here or to the family. As they figure out where they will live, what they need, and how to start again…your donations will ease some of this unimaginable strain.”
Mike and Lori own and operate Miguel’s in Detroit Lakes, a business that Mike’s parents Jerry and Pat opened in 1982.
You can donate to the Danner family’s GoFundMe here. The family is also asking for plastic totes to store belongings that can be salvaged.
