DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Lakes Area students participated in the United Way of Becker County Annual Day of Caring, Wednesday.
This was the first Day of Caring event in the Lakes area in more than two years after being cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. “We have not held Day of Caring in Becker County since 2019 because of COVID. We are so excited to once again be working with the students and staffs of Detroit Lakes, Frazee and Lake Park Audubon Schools and Community Volunteers to reach out and assist our most seasoned citizens with projects that enable them to stay in their homes longer,” said LuAnn Porter, Executive Director for the United Way of Becker County.
More than 2,000 volunteers fanned out across Becker County to assist senior citizens, disabled or active military persons with yard work, garden cleanup and window washing.
