Free Dental Clinic in Detroit Lakes, Wednesday

May 10, 2022 | 9:46 AM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A nonprofit dental health clinic will be held in Detroit Lakes this week.

Children’s Dental Services, a nonprofit that provides a full range of dental services will be seeing children at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, May 11. Dentists will be providing cleanings as well as exams and fillings and a number of other dental services.

There is a growing need for dental access in the Lakes Area with only five dentists that serve Minnesota health care program recipients in the entire region. In 2019, more than 11,000 Becker County residents aged zero to 69 enrolled in one of the Minnesota Health Care Programs, but only about a third of them saw a dentist.

Jane Neubauer, Dental Services Coordinator with Partnership4Health says that mobile dental clinics are not able to keep up with the demand. She and a committee are hoping to help alleviate the problem to create a non-profit dental office in Detroit Lakes for low income families. “We’re really excited to be having this discussion in Detroit Lakes with health care providers, nonprofit providers – there’s been an awful lot of people at the table looking at this problem and how we can address it.”

Appoints for the Children’s Dental Services dental health clinic this week can be made by calling 1-866-543-6009. CDS accepts Medical Assistance payments as well as MNcare.
