Laker Softball Sweeps Doubleheader vs Staples Motley

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Lakers softball team evened their record at 3-3 with a sweep of MidState Conference opponent Staples-Motley at Snappy Park on Tuesday evening.

The Lakers finished off the Cardinals in four innings in game one 15-0, then won 22-12 in game two.

All nine Laker batters scored at least one run in the first game. Ella Okeson hit a grand slam in a ten-run fourth inning for the Lakers, capped off by a game-ending home run by Sidney Borgmann. Siri Vagle reached base four times and scored three runs, Rachel Kasowski reached three times and scored three times, and Megan Stalberger held the Cardinals to one hit over four innings.

The Lakers scored ten runs in the first inning of game two as Maddy Bellanger, Kacy Schiltz, and Rachel Kasowski each hit first-inning home runs off of Cardinal pitcher Mandy Carter. Vagle was 4-5 with four runs and two stolen bases, Emma Coley was 3-4 with a walk and three runs scored and Kasowski was 4-5 with a first-inning home run and four RBI.

The Lakers will host another double-header this Thursday against Crosby-Ironton…a makeup matchup that was canceled due to weather on April 19th.
