100 Trees to be Planted at Rotary Soccer Fields in Detroit Lakes to Celebrate Arbor Day

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Friday, is National Arbor Day and to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the tree planter’s holiday 100 trees will be planted at Rotary Soccer Fields in Detroit Lakes.

The living tribute was donated by Detroit Lakes Rotary members, Tom and Pam Mortenson; 25 Sugar Maple, 25 Paper Birch, 25 Red Splendor Crabtree, and 25 Red Pine (Norway) will be planted by volunteers on Saturday. “This will be a great day and reflects the 33 years that Detroit Lakes has been designated a ‘Tree City USA’, said Tom Mortenson. ” The trees will provide shade and enhance the community by creating a healthier environment.”

The event is open to the public, additionally 100 coloring sheets have been distributed to both the DL Library and DL Boys and Girls Club to encourage youth to have fun and learn about the importance of Arbor Day and trees in the community.
