ALEXANDRIA, MN (KDLM) – Senior McKenna Mallow led the Laker Girls Golf team with an 82 at Alexandria Golf Club on Wednesday as the Lakers finished second in the 13-team field.
Mallow’s 82 was good for a sixth-place finish, three shots off the lead. Alexandria’s Hannah Boraas shot a 79 for medalist honors.
“McKenna has been a great senior leader for our team this season,” said Laker Girls Golf coach Dustin Martin. “We’ve got a pretty young team this year. When she was in seventh or eighth grade, she was learning from golfers like Kate Smith, Maddie Herzog, Anna Cihak, and Shelby Busker. She knows what it’s like to be 13 years old and competing in varsity meets. She’s done wonderful in that role. She’s great with all the kids, she treats everybody the same whether they shoot 85 or 120.”
The Lakers finished 16-strokes behind reigning state champion Alexandria.
Sophomore Laura Syltie carded an 88 for Detroit Lakes, while eighth-grader Maddie McDougall and sophomore Hanna Knoop each shot 90s. Freshman Sydney Miller shot a 96 and eighth-grader Tatum Gatheridge shot a 104.
It’s the third-straight top-three finish for the Lakers this season after finishing third in Becker to open the season and winning the Pequot Lakes Open last week.
The Lakers will host their first meet of the season at Lakeview Golf Course on Friday at 11:00.
