DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The former Mattson Barber Shop building in Detroit Lakes has been torn down.
The building sustained heavy fire damage on Sept. 10, 2021 after sparks from a fire bowl on an apartment balcony caused a wood pile area to start on fire.
Taylor Davis of Detroit Lakes, who lived in the apartment that adjoined the Washington Square Mall was charged with felony negligence.
More than 300,000 gallons of water was used to put out the fire, businesses nearby including some in the Washington Square mall suffered significant smoke and water damage and were forced to temporarily close.
It’s not clear what may be built in the former site of the building, but a post on social media, Monday from the Washington Square mall said they’re “excited to be dreaming and thinking of new possibilities.”
