(KDLM) – After leading the Timberwolves to their best season in five years, head coach Chris Finch has been given a multi-year extension. The terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

The Wolves finished 10 games above .500 at 46-36 in Finch’s first full season as head coach, which is their most wins since they won 47 games in the 2017-18 season and only their second winning season since 2005. The Wolves also finished the season as the NBA’s highest-scoring team, averaging a club record 115.9 points per game. It’s the first time in franchise history that the Wolves have led the league in scoring.

“Chris has done a tremendous job creating stability and consistency for this franchise and building a winning mentality,” said the Timberwolves ownership group, led by Mark Lore and Alex Rodriguez. “We look forward to supporting him throughout the years while he continues achieving the goals he and his staff have set out for the team.”

Finch has the Timberwolves preparing to face the Los Angeles Clippers in the 7 v 8 matchup in the NBA play-in tournament at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Clippers beat the Wolves three out of four times this season, and Paul George is back after missing 50 games and is playing at a high level: 22 ppg, six rebounds, and eight assists. LA has won five of their last six games since George returned on March 29th.

The winner of Wolves/Clippers will become the 7 seed and face No. 2 Memphis in a best-of-seven series, while the loser will have to play the winner of the New Orleans/San Antonio game in a one-game playoff for the 8 seed and the right to face the 64-win Phoenix.

The Wolves were 2-2 against Memphis, including a loss in OT. Phoenix swept all three games against Minnesota this season.
