FORT COLLINS, CO (KDLM) – Colorado State University junior Will Stowman (DLHS ’19) was picked by the coaching staff as Colorado State University Rams D2 Rookie of the Year for the 2021-22 season.

CSU has Division 1 and Division 2 club hockey teams. Stowman wasn’t planning on playing college hockey this year, but a CSU coach saw him playing open hockey at a local rink and asked him to try out for the team. The CSU D2 team schedule does not include as much travel or time, so Stowman chose to skate with the D2 team.

After about a month on the roster, Stowman was named the team’s starting center. Since graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 2019, Stowman hasn’t skated competitively. He left his hockey equipment at home his freshman year, then skated recreationally his sophomore year.

CSU skates in the Big Mountain Hockey Conference with club teams from the University of Denver, Metro State University in Denver, CU (University of Colorado), University of Wyoming, and the University of Northern Colorado.

CSU’s season ended February 18 with a BMHC playoff loss to the University of Northern Colorado.
