ALEXANDRIA, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Boys Swim and Dive Team finished in fifth place at the Section 5A Meet at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria over the weekend.

The Lakers finished with a team score of 175. Alexandria won the section championship with a score of 572.

Senior John Gulon is headed to the State Swim and Dive tournament this weekend after setting a school record in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 55.18 seconds. Gulon finished in second place behind Melrose-Sauk Center’s Adam Wilwerding, who had a finals time of 54.91. This is Gulon’s second trip to state, individually. He competed in the 100-meter back as a sophomore in 2020. He missed last year’s state meet after a positive COVID test.

The State Swim and Dive meet is Thursday thru Saturday at the Jean K Peterson Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
