Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Lakers have been given the #3 seed in the upcoming Section 8AAA tournament and will host the Little Falls Flyers at the Lakeshirts Fieldhouse on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
“When they updated the QRF this morning, there was a point-and-a-half between us and Sauk Rapids-Rice,” Laker head coach Rachel Johnson told KDLM on Saturday morning. “We have a better record than they do, and the seeding committee does take that into consideration when seeding these tournaments.”
After a 1-7 start to the season, Detroit Lakes finished 11-12 overall, and 1-2 against other teams in Section 8AAA. The Wilmar Cardinals were given the tournament’s top overall seed with an 18-8 (7-0 section) record. Alexandria is the two-seed at 12-12 (5-2 section). Willmar will face the winner of #4 Rocori vs #Sauk Rapids-Rice, and the winner of #3 Detroit Lakes vs #6 Little Falls will play Alexandria.
“We are a young team,” says Laker senior Alex Bettcher, who hasn’t played this season due to a knee injury. “But we do all of the little things right. There’s always room to grow and there’s always room for improvement. Playing fast-paced and getting up-and-down will be good for this team.”
The Lakers played Little Falls to open up the 2021-22 season back on December 4th, and beat the Flyers 65-15. Little Falls is 5-20 this season (0-2 section).
