MINNEAPOLIS, (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Laker Dance team took the floor at the Target Center for the first time in 12 years and gave it their all in a memorable State performance, but the team was left out of the Top 6 team advancing to the State Finals tonight.
“We told the girls beforehand that we were proud of them, no matter what,” said head coach Britton Ramsey. “We had a goal this year to make it to State. We did that. We are so proud of them for that. We got an extra two weeks together as a team. They achieved every goal we had as a team, from scores to meet placements. They did it all. Today was to soak in the experience of being a top-12 team in the State.”
“One of the best parts of today was looking up into the crowd and seeing all the Laker fans in the building,” said coach Hailey Brower. “To walk out of the tunnel when our name was called and see so many people standing and cheering. At the end of the dance, the girls’ arms were stretched straight out, facing the Laker crowd was amazing.”
The six teams moving on to compete for the Class AA Jazz championship tonight are Benilde-St. Margaret, Orono, Totino-Grace, Mound Westonka, Sauk Rapids-Rice, and Holy Family. State competition begins at 7:30 tonight.
In Class AAA, Wayzata, Eastview, Brainerd, Edina, Maple Grove, and Sartell will compete for the championship.
Frazee will compete in the Class A finals at 5:30 with Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Yellow Medicine East, Cannon Falls, Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson Boyd, and St. Cloud Cathedral.
