DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Poles N Holes Ice Fishing Derby is set to take place on Little Detroit Lakes, Saturday.
In its 12th year, the annual fishing derby hosted by the Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club has raised more than $200,000 to support area literacy, youth sports, senior citizens programs and community projects.
Around 2,000 holes will be predrilled for anglers on Saturday. Registration was to begin at 9 with fishing at noon, however due to winter weather, Friday the Poles N Holes team has moved registration back to 10 a.m. to allow time to adequately prepare the derby area with fishing beginning at noon. The new time, likely won’t stop anglers from lining up in the early morning hours, though says Kathy Michaelson one of the event organizers, “It’s crazy how people start lining up about 6:30 in the morning… and people go rushing through to pick the perfect holes.”
Prize packages at the derby are valued $30,000 with prizes that include an Ambush Stryker Skidhouse, a Bear Track Utility Trailer, and a Polaris 2022 Sportsman 450 Four Wheeler.
If you go, tickets are $55 to fish and entitle you to fish two holes.
