Cory Hepola leaves WCCO Radio, eyeing bid for governor?

By Zeke Fuhrman Feb 14, 2022 | 8:52 PM

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KDLM) – Media personality Cory Hepola, who most recently held down 9-12 on WCCO-AM in the Twin Cities, has announced that he has left the radio station.

“This is just the start,” Hepola wrote on his social media pages. “Thank you for allowing me to earn your trust,”

Hepola began the mid-morning shift on WCCO Radio in January 2019. Prior to that, the Perham native worked at KARE 11 in Minneapolis. He also hosts the critically-acclaimed docuseries “Rural By Choice”, which is currently filming its second season.

“I knew from the start it would because I knew from the start what a responsibility it is to hold that mic.” Hepola wrote. “This wasn’t a job, it was a calling to utilize my voice – on this iconic platform – in a positive way: to inform, inspire, listen, love, and serve our state. I felt the pressure from the start. I mean, this was a huge risk; I was giving up a successful career (in TV) I’d worked so hard for – to move into something new.”

Hepola’s last appearance on WCCO was Monday, February 8th. The next day, Blois Olson signed on at 9:00.
Hepola also appeared on MPR on February 8th with political reporter Brian Bakst and said that he is considering a run for Minnesota governor.
“I’m thinking about it,” said Hepola. “It’s a lot for me to think about. Is there space for choice and unity and hope? I certainly think so, but I don’t know. That’s kind of where I’m at. This is a huge decision. My life will never be the same and I just want to make sure that we remain authentic to all of Minnesota.”

Hepola says he’ll make his decision on whether or not to throw his hat into the ring in 4-6 weeks.
