DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – About 95 Lakes Area National Guard troops returned home, Wednesday.
Troops spent an 11-month deployment in the Middle East and were welcomed home by residents who lined the streets in Detroit Lakes as they made their way to the Detroit Lakes Armory.
“People are very happy to get back home and back to their families. It’s a long trying time to be away from your family for so long and even though there is 20 below windchill today they’re still happy to be back,” said Captain Brian Bohn the commander of the Detroit Lakes National Guard.
The Lakes Area troops were part of a security force mission in Kuwait and trained with Kuwaitis, Saudis and Egyptians; assisted with evacuations in Afghanistan, and provided medical screening and support for more than five thousand Afghan civilians in Kuwait.
