Body Found at Apartment Fire in Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A body was found during an apartment fire in Detroit Lakes on Saturday.

Detroit Lakes Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to an active fire at 1265 Loring Avenue around 10:30 a.m., Saturday.  Emergency personnel evacuated the building and firefighters from the Detroit Lakes Fire Department extinguished the fire.

Firefighters discovered the remains 61-year-old Kari Bishop of Detroit Lakes.

“The fire scene is still actively under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s office; our investigations unit and our Fire Chief are both assisting with that. I don’t have any comments as far as the cause of the fire, but I will tell you it doesn’t appear to be any suspicious nature,” said Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steven Todd.

The victim was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Fire damage was contained to the specific unit involved, however smoke damage was prevalent in other units of the 27-unit building which displaced residents over the weekend.
