
DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A house fire in Detroit Lakes, Wednesday was caused by a dryer.
Just after 1 a.m., the Becker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a fire in the laundry room of a house at 11498 Lake Maud Road in rural Detroit Lakes.
Everyone in the home was able to get out of the house and the resident was able to extinguish the fire on their own. The fire, however caused smoke damage throughout the home and minor fire damage in the laundry room.
Firefighters across the country respond to nearly 14,000 home fires caused by clothes dryers, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Residents are encouraged to clean the lint traps of their dryer after each use and to clean their ducts annually.
