DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Law enforcement is warning residents about a post Christmas scam that has targeted a number of people.
Scammers are sending emails to unsuspecting people that look like they’re coming from Best Buy and other retailers. Fraudulent emails and text messages contain a link for people to click on if they want to return holiday gifts. The link then asks for personal and financial information. Scammers then steal the information before purchasing high-end items for themselves.
Computer experts say as a general rule of thumb, don’t click links in emails unless you’re absolutely sure their legitimate.
