BARNESVILLE, MN (KDLM) – Yesterday was the first day of early the early signing period across college football and the North Dakota State Bison introduced 31 incoming freshmen to their 2022 recruiting class, which includes Barnesville All-Star Kaden Zenzen.

Zenzen starred at tight end, defensive end, and kicker for the Trojans each of the past two seasons, earning District MVP honors and All-Section honors the last two years. As a three-year starter, he has played on four Trojan section championship teams with two state semifinal appearances and a state runner-up. Zenzen was a part of the Minnesota High School Football All-Star game in 2021 and holds Barnesville program records in receiving yards (673) and receiving touchdowns (13). He also tallied 151 tackles and 19.5 sacks on defense.

“Being able to be a part of a winning culture with great staff and players was important to me,” says Zenzen. “Coming from Barnesville, we have a great football community and we’ve had a lot of success here. And bringing that over to NDSU, who also has a lot of success, I feel like this is going to be a smooth transition, but you’ve got to work hard wherever you go.”

Zenzen will play tight end for the Bison, which has a recent history of churning out NFL prospects at that position.

“Having as much success at tight end as I’ve had, I knew NDSU was where I wanted to go. (Offensive Coordinator/TE coach) Tyler Roehl does an amazing job coaching these tight ends and fullbacks. You can tell because of guys like Ben Ellefson is in the NFL and you’ve got other guys on the team (Noah Gindorff, Josh Babicz) that could go to the NFL too.”

Zenzen is one of four tight ends to sign with NDSU, joining Kelby Azure of Portland, ND, Nate Forystek of Green Bay, WI, and Luke Kokat of Sturtevant, WI.

NDSU’s early signing day class consists of 15 offensive players, 15 defensive players, and one placekicker, and were recruited from eight different states: Minnesota (13),  North Dakota (7), Wisconsin (5), Illinois (2), Georgia (1), Iowa (1), Nebraska (1) and South Dakota (1).
