DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Detroit Mountain is planning on opening for the winter season, Saturday.
The Mountain, in its 8th season will plan to keep some of the changes that were implemented last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic including pre-purchasing lift tickets, rentals, and tubing online. Advance booking is not required for season pass holders.
One challenge this year, however is staffing. General Manager, Jeff Staley says the Mountain is approximately 50% staffed. “To attract candidates, we have increased wages in all departments and expanded some of the perks of the job. Most notably, to attract stay at home parents we have offered family passes to spouses, significant others, and dependent children. We are also looking at various referral and seasonal bonuses.”
More than 125 employees are needed to get to full operation with approximately 60 to 70 staff through the course of a single day.
Snowmaking continues at the Mountain with plans to open runs including Bad Medicine and Mr. O, and the Big Bunny carpet with Cruiser this weekend. Detroit Mountain will be open, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
