DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Plans are underway for Polar Fest and the organizers are not only constructing a bigger ice palace than ever before they plan to have two frozen fireworks shows.

Seventeen days of events and activities are planned for this year’s Polar Fest in Detroit Lakes beginning Friday, Feb. 11.

A bigger ice palace will be constructed using about 1,700 blocks of ice harvested from Little Detroit Lakes. The new palace will be around 95 feet long, 24 feet deep and 32 feet high. That’s nearly double the length of the first ice palace built in 2018.

The planning committee has also announced two nights of frozen fireworks. The first on Saturday, Feb. 12 to kick off the first weekend of Polar Fest and the second on Saturday, Feb. 26 to close things out. Show will be at 7 pm along the Detroit Lakes City Beach.

Polar Fest is held annually in February. It was created and run by an independent, all-volunteer committee in Detroit Lakes.
