Detroit Lakes Police Department Holding Annual No-Shave November Fundraiser

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) –

Lakes Area residents may notice that their local law enforcement officers may be a little scruffier than usual.

Every November, the Detroit Lakes Police Department holds their annual, in-house No Shave November fundraiser. Every year, an officer sends a request to Police Chief Steve Todd to waive the station’s shaving policy. Todd agrees to wave the policy for the month of November for a $40 fee.

If officers don’t want to grow a beard, they are still able to donate.

This year’s fundraiser is being headed up by Officer Brent Fulton, and all donations will be given to Backing The Blue Line (Police Wives of Minnesota), a non-profit based in Bloomington that offers a forum for law enforcement wives to find and provide hope and support for each other through friendships, networking, discussion, and service.

In previous years, the DLPD has supported The House of Shields in Rochester, which provides free housing to first responders and their families that are undergoing treatment at Mayo Clinic and last year raised money to help Waseca Police Officer Erik Mattson purchase a handicap-accessible vehicle after he was shot and critically injured in the line of duty on January 2020.

Area residents can also contribute to Backing The Blue Line. Donations can be dropped off at the Detroit Lakes Police Station, care of Brent Fulton.
