DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Lakes Area residents are gearing up for the first winter weather event of the season.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of the Lakes Area from 6 p.m., Thursday through 12 p.m., Friday.
The National Weather Service says rain will change to snow along the Canadian border, Thursday. Snow will spread south behind a cold front with snow and wind Thursday night.
For snow amounts, heavier snow is expected along the Canadian Border eastward to the Lake of the Woods region, where there could be upwards of 6 inches or more.
Elsewhere, including in the Lakes Area 1 to 3 inches is likely, with pockets of 4 inches or more.
Northwest winds will be gusty, with 40 mph gusts or slightly higher. The primary impacts will be the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
