McCleary finishes first, Perham Boys second at State Cross Country Meet

NORTHFIELD, MN (KDLM) – Senior Jakob McCleary became Perham’s first individual state champion since 2013 as the Yellowjackets took second place at the Class A State Cross Country Meet at St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon.

McCleary won the Boys race with a time of 16:09.24. West Central Area placed two runners in the top ten: Kade Runge finished fifth (16:33.67) and Alex Salwasser finished seventh (16:42.73). Issiah Tabatt of Staples-Motley finished ninth with a time of 16:49.08.

The Perham boys team just missed a four-peat at State, finishing runner up to Nova Classical Academy (St. Paul), who edged out Perham by a score of 122 to 128. Staples-Motley finished fifth for the second-consecutive year with a total of 191 points. Park Rapids Area finished in sixth place with a score of 194.
