Laker Volleyball Sweeps St. Cloud Tech to Advance In 8AAA Playoffs

By Zeke Fuhrman Oct 29, 2021 | 9:58 AM

St. Cloud, MN (KDLM) – On Thursday night, Detroit Lakes dominated play against the St. Cloud Tech Tigers, winning in straight sets 25-20, 25-18, and 25-19. The Laker volleyball team was led by great team play to pick up the win and advance to the next round of the Section 8AAA volleyball playoffs.

As the higher seed, the St. Cloud Tech Tigers hosted the game but could not take advantage of their home court. The Tigers made too many self-inflicted errors that put them behind in all three sets. The Lakers capitalized with Grace Gunderson and Jalynn Gunderson leading the way in kills and Logan Fredrickson and Helena Daggett leading the team in blocks, as Detroit Lakes was dominant at the net. The Lakers also had excellent passing from their setter Kiah Gloege and their libero Olivia Clark-Burnette. Detroit Lakes also had excellent bench play from Bailey Lindblad and reliable serving by Madissen Bellanger.

On Tuesday, the number-fived seeded Lakers will take on the top team in the section, the Alexandria Cardinals. The Cardinals obtained the number seed due to finishing the regular season with a record of 19-1. The Cardinals improved their record to 20-1 when they took St. Cloud Apollo in straight sets.

The Lakers and Cardinals game on Tuesday is scheduled for 8:01 pm. KDLM will broadcast the game on Tuesday, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:40 pm.
