Roses for Rotary Back for 29th Year

Oct 26, 2021 | 11:19 AM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary will host their 29th Roses for Rotary Rose Sale next week.

Conceived in 1993, the sale of roses was initially designed to offer hunters an opportunity to buy roses for their significant others while they were away hunting. Today, the annual fundraiser has evolved into the second largest fundraiser for the organization with support from hunters and non-hunters, alike.

“We always do the rose sale event the same week of the year, opening deer hunting – but there are a lot of people who come to get roses who want to help the event,” said Kathy Michaelson who helps organize the event each year.

Roses will be available, Nov. 4-6, while supplies last for $20 per dozen. Tickets can be purchased in advance from a Breakfast Rotary member, or during the sale at DL Floral in the Washington Square Mall, the Holiday Inn or the North Shore Travel Plaza. Bergens, who normally participate in the event will not be offering roses this year, due to road construction.

Proceeds benefit local community projects throughout the Lakes Area.
