BATTLE LAKE (KBRF) – Battle Lake will soon to be home to a new development called “Hatchery Row.”

The idea for the ‘Hatchery Row Project,’ which will be a combination of commercial and residential space, began about four years ago and is now in the process of going from idea to reality.

“This is probably one of the biggest projects that Battle Lake has done, at least in the last 20 years. It’s really going to help with our existing businesses along with helping to create some new businesses in town with the commercial space they are putting in there…plus the added apartments and stuff that we greatly need. Housing is a shortage here, as it is everywhere else,” said Val Martin with the City of Battle Lake.

The project will consist of approximately 12,000 to 13,000 square feet of commercial space and 15 apartments – most of the commercial space is spoken for and a lot of the apartments are already committed.

According to Martin, one of the bigger parts of the plan involves the Community Center, which is currently housed in an old church. It will be moving to Hatchery Row.

Several grants given to assist with the project including tear down, clean up and infrastructure. Construction is set to begin this fall and wrapped up by the end of next year.
