Detroit Lakes Girls Cross Country Finishes Second at Midstate Meet, Boys Finish Fourth

Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Lakers hosted the Midstate Conference Cross Country meet at the Lakeview Golf Course on Thursday. The Girls finished with a second-place finish, and the boys finished fourth.

Isla Pender was the first runner in for the Laker girls, finishing in sixth place with a time of 20:43. Julia Steffl finished in eighth place with a time of 20:50, and Sadie Johnson finished ninth with a 20:58.

Staples-Motley won the conference title with 34 points. The Lakers finished with 73 points, and Park Rapids took third with 79. Sophomore Calia Cheney of Pequot Lakes won the race with a time of 18:55.

Cole Weber paced the Laker boys team with a 14th place finish and a time of 18:21 as the Lakers finished in fourth place as a team. Braydon Francis finished in 17th place with a time of 18:46, and Casey Parks (20:14) and Micah Barberg (20:23) finished in 26th and 27th place, respectively.

Park Rapids won a close meet with 39 points. Staples-Motley finished in second place with 42 points, and Pequot Lakes finished third with 45 points. Staples-Motley sophomore Issiah Tabbat won the race with a 16:54.

The Lakers’ next meet with be Tuesday, October 19th at Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course in Elbow Lake. The section meet is on Thursday, October 28th at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria.
