Overnight Boat Parking No Longer Allowed on Detroit Lakes City Beach

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – The city of Detroit Lakes has amended their Beach Ordinance after a number of boaters this summer have left their boats along the city’s beach longer than the 24 hours that had previously been permitted.

The tightening of the ordinance is a result of a number of complaints over the summer. “We’ve got people who are coming down launching their boats and leaving them parked over the weekend…its become a little bit of an issue with a lot of boats parked their taking up space – the beach is a public beach and we want to keep it open and free to the public,” Mayor Matt Brenk said during the city’s council meeting in August.

Under the amended ordinance, no watercraft may be parked or moored along the city beach between 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The previous ordinance allowed for boats to be parked along the beach for no more than 24 hours.
