FRAZEE (KDLM) – A group of Lakes Area veterans has begun construction on a new Veterans Memorial park in Vergas.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday, though concrete pads and flagpoles have already been constructed.
The Vergas Veterans Memorial Park will be built next to the Vergas ballfield and include two, 25 foot circles, one featuring granite monuments of every branch of the U.S. military and the other featuring 8 granite pillars with veterans’ names engraved, one of those pillars will be dedicated to those lost in combat.
The group expects the park to cost around $100,000, Lyle Kreig a committee member helping to develop the park says it will be a great tribute, “I think it’s important – touring around you see so many neat Veteran’s parks in cities and it will be a good tribute within the city of Vergas.”
