DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a Lakes Area Hospital is encouraging all women over the age of 40 to get a mammogram.
Dr. Ben Smith at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes says Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, “Breast Cancer is very common, so getting that annual mammogram is extremely important. ”
One in every eight women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime according to researchers.
“The good news about breast cancer is that when we can detect it early, the 5 year survival is 99%. It’s hard to beat those statistics when it comes to any cancer.”
