Student Caught with Weapon at Perham Middle School

PERHAM (KDLM) – A Perham student was caught with a weapon at the middle school, Wednesday morning.

The School District notified parents, Wednesday that District staff were made aware that a weapon was brought into the Prairie Wind Middle School building. The weapon was immediately confiscated and removed prior to the start of school.

The District says there was no indication of any threat made against any students or staff members and no one was harmed. A copy of the School Districts letter to parents is below:

It is a top priority for Perham-Dent Public Schools to ensure a safe learning and working environment for our students and staff.

The District takes every potential threat to safety very seriously and is committed to providing transparent and timely information to our students, staff and families. With that in mind, we are writing to inform our school community that, early this morning (September 29, 2021), District staff were made aware that a weapon was brought into the Prairie Wind Middle school building.

The weapon was immediately confiscated and removed prior to the start of the school day. There was no indication of any threat made against any students or staff members and no one was harmed.

We understand that even the presence of a weapon can be alarming. School Board Policy No. 501 expressly prohibits weapons at our schools, and School District administrators are trained to enforce School Board policies and take steps to keep their students and staff safe at all times. Due to state and federal data privacy laws, the School District is unable to provide additional details regarding this event at this time.
