Plans to Replace Outgoing Becker County Administrator Begin to Take Shape

Sep 21, 2021 | 1:26 PM

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – Becker County plans to spread the County Administrator duties out across multiple positions temporarily while they decide how to replace Becker County Administrator, Mike Brethorst.

Brethorst and the County agreed to a mutual separation in a special meeting last week; Brethorst’s final day with the county will be October 8.

“I’m looking at our leadership team to lead us for awhile until we see which direction we want to go – I know we have people that would like to do it on a team basis and take different chunks of it,” said Barry Nelson during Tuesday’s County Commission meeting.

Ultimately, the county will need someone to handle administrative duties for the county to coordinate building projects, highway projects and navigating the State’s upcoming redistricting and election process.

The County will now look to post the open County Administrator position and if necessary hire a firm to help coordinate the job search.
