Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM)-

With alumni on hand, the Laker volleyball team fell on their home court on Monday night, falling to the Spuds in straight sets 25-18, 25-16, and 25-21. Detroit Lakes got off to solid starts in all three sets but could not maintain their lead as they fell for the fourth time in a row.

In the first set, Detroit Lakes jumped out to an early lead but midway through the set, Moorhead went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Moorhead junior Riane Mohagen led the Spuds to victory in the first set with six kills.

The second set was back and forth until the Spuds took advantage of a call that went against Detroit Lakes, and also, the Lakers struggled with some defensive miscues. The Spuds took the second set due mainly because of the strong play by senior Mya Pfeifer, who gave her team four points in the set.

Detroit Lakes once again had a strong start in the third set as they took a commanding lead 12-6. The strong start prompted the Spuds veteran head coach Char Lien to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Spuds stormed back and took the lead 16-15. The Spuds sealed the victory on a kill by Mya Pfeifer.

The loss drops Detroit Lakes record to 2-5 on the season. The Spuds extend their winning streak to 4 wins in a row.

Before the game last night, there was a pregame ceremony. The Lakers honored their past coaches and players by inviting them on the floor to be recognized. This year’s volleyball team will be the last DL team to play their full-season at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium. The ceremony was called “Past and Present Night.” Head coach Lynnsey Machakaire was the emcee for the event and introduced a video slideshow that featured all of the teams throughout the volleyball team’s existence.

Next up, DL will get right back on the court tonight as they will host Wadena-Deer-Creek. The Wolverines enter play tonight with a record of 4-6. Tonight’s match will begin at 7:30 pm at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium.

Other Laker Scores:

Girls Soccer: The Laker girls soccer team fell on the road to Little Falls on Monday night 4-0. The Lakers are now 5-3-1 and will return to action on Thursday when they host the Moorhead Spuds. That game can be heard on KDLM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 pm.
