Fire that Damaged Washington Square Mall Deemed Accidental

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) – A fire that shutdown the Washington Square Mall in Detroit Lakes has been deemed accidental and unintentional according to the Detroit Lakes Fire Department.

A fire, Friday broke out in an apartment adjacent to the mall – smoke and water spilled into the mall during firefighting efforts, more than 300,000 gallons of water was used to put out the fire.

Many of the malls businesses sustained smoke and water damage and each one is assessing when they might be able to reopen. A handful of businesses reopened, Sunday including 180 Balance, Don Pablo’s Mexican restaurant, Pizza Hut, the Chinese Dragon and the Cinemagic 7 Theatre; while Forever Summer tanning and a handful of others opened, Monday.

Gliks, which sustained heavy smoke and water damage likely won’t be able to reopen for four to six weeks.
